Velvet Moon Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Review: Flavorless, passable. $6.99
I should have written this review last night, but we were watching a movie. Anyways, I can now provide you with detailed hangover information, so it's probably for the best.
Velvet Moon Cabernet Sauvignon is a $7 wine from Trader Joe's.
I am personally a big fan of wines that taste like wine. I'm not hugely into overly complex tastes and scents. I don't like musty wines or wines that are too crisp. If I had to pick, I'd probably pick mid-bodied.
In other words, boring. I like boring.
At the risk of insulting the vintner, Velvet Moon totally fits that bill. It tastes like wine. Plain wine.
If I was to liken it to anything, I'd say it even tasted like grapes. That's how wine-y this wine is.
It has a medium body with weak legs.
On paper, this should be my favorite wine. But I think it's even too boring for me.
I've had Sutter Homes with more personality than this wine. No, really. That's a true fact.
That said, it's a fine table wine. It's not a "I'm going to sit outside on the patio and enjoy a nice glass of wine" wine, but it's a "I'm watching A Million Ways to Die in the West and want some wine with this reheated chicken and kale" wine.
Hangover report: I was initially worried when I woke up at 5:30 with a mild headache. It seemed like this might be the beginning of an absolutely heinous migraine, which would be really inconvenient given I had a product photo shoot at 10:30. However, by the time my day actually started at 6:30, the headache was gone and there was absolutely zero hangover.
Would I buy this wine again? I wouldn't seek out this wine to buy again, but if I had to choose between Velvet Moon and a bunch of other wines that I had tried, I might give this one another try just to see if I could eek out a little personality.
